Southern Indiana Drive

  • Wild Eggs 223 West 5th Street New Albany, IN, 47150 United States (map)

The Polar Bear drive was such a great success, that those of us in Indiana wanted a have a similar event. Our drive would be on either Wednesday April 8th, rain date on the 10th, 2026, depending on forecast weather. This drive is a modification of the famous "Cliff Wilson" drive to the Great Race in E’town, 2025. This ride will allow the participants to spend a lot of time driving on curvy, up/down roads where the max speed will be 40mph.

We are also doing the drive on a weekday, which favors retired folks. All those from Kentucky should drive over the Sherman Minton (the 'no cost’ bridge). Also, there are a limited number of eateries on the square in Corydon. Outlined below is the general route of travel.

  1. Departure from Wild Eggs restaurant, New Albany, IN 47150 at 10:30 AM

  2. Travel south on HWY 111 past the casino all the way to New Boston, known for DAM 43. This will seem as if this road is taking you to the end of civilization and almost to the end of the earth! (The road is posted at 55MPH.) The trip from there will be a unique experience, we promise. First, we must turn night or we will take a dip in the Ohio River.

  3. We will then travel from DAM 43 to Laconia, IN, on well-paved roads that are amazing, max speed 40mph. On the way to Laconia, there will be literally no traffic, so the group will not get separated. If you are really interested, call up "Google Maps Indiana and you pick out the route.

  4. From Laconia, we will go north to Cordon on HWY 33;, though a major road, it has another seemingly thousand turns on the way to the Square at the Old State House in downtown Corydon.

  5. Corydon ends the official drive.

On the square, there are four restaurants from which we may choose to eat basic lunch menus. It is highly suggested that you Google, “restaurants, Corydon, Indiana," and look at the list. These choices have seating for groups and can accommodate us: please find the  following:

1. Fredricks Cafe & Grill. complete breakfast and lunch menu. As per the title. Mexican foods.

2. Kary Meats. A butcher shop that has expanded into a lunch spot as well. Complete lunch menu.

3. Fistful Craft Restaurant. A brewery and restaurant, Tacos etc. (location also in New Albany).

After lunch, there are shops on the square or a return home through Lanesville on HWY 62. This will return you to New Albany. Louisvillians should easily beat rush hour.

If you want to go, respond to my email: howardhosp46@gmail.com Include a phone that i can TEXT to. I will add you to the current group text.

We will vote on the best place to eat, once we have a better idea of the headcount. Please let me know in the next week!
